Protest songs are not just for the younger generation and there has never been more need of them than there is now. So I have rewritten the famous Bob Dylan classic Times They Are A-Changin' and given it an updated English twist as a protest song for those of us old enough to remember the original, but who have kept the faith and never stopped fighting for peace, justice and freedom...and continue that struggle today in the digital age.
The World Needs Re-Arrangin'
Come bloggers and tweeters, who type
what you think,
and back-up your posts with a cut
hyper-link
Put it on Face Book, kick up a stink
it's time to start campaignin'
Austerity Britain is pushed to the
brink
The World Needs Re-Arrangin'
The sick and the poor abandoned to
rot
our welfare state carved up 'n' sold
off
Austerity Britain, like it or not
is no place to be ageing
we were young in the 60s, but now we
are not
The World Needs Re-Arrangin'
Bankers and gangsters made off with
the loot
Britain's tax payers are left
destitute
our politicians are utterly mute
their own necks they are saving
their streetwalker principles they
prostitute
The World Needs Re-Arrangin'
Corporate tax dodgers, MPs on the
take
dodgy expenses receipts are all fake
best kick 'em out now, too much is
at stake
it's us that they're short-changin'
doing arms deals with filthy rich
sheiks
The World Needs Re–Arrangin'
Illegal invasions of poor sovereign
states
Nato fascists that everyone hates
governments comprise of sick
reprobates
false flag attacks they are stagin'
So rise up now and we'll sweep 'em away
The World Needs Re–Arrangin'
Words by Bob Villain (the voice of his generation).

Wow, I hope this spreads like wildfire all over the internet AA.
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job of updating an old song and made it relevant for times like these.

ReplyDeleteMr Villain, errrrr, I mean Mr. Dylan couldn't have done better, AA. Wonderful satiric stanzas on the corruption of the powerful and the need for rearrangement
ReplyDeleteThis month enough Americans said a healthy "No!" to those who would replace our own federal Earned Benefits system with something draconian and out of our viscous past. The fight is not over here, but the tide of battle has turned away from the worst excesses of the past.
Thank you for those kind words Doug, I thought it was about time we had a new protest song since there is so much to protest about. I hope you are right about the tide of events in the US having turned, we can only wait and watch developments, but here and in other parts of Europe it is now time for resolute action to defend our assets and restore abolished democracy.
